Stacy Smith
Our first Mom of the Week is Mrs. Stacy Smith. She is an English teacher at Joe T. Robinson High School and a mom of three daughters.
Other than being a mom and a teacher, what else do you do or have accomplished in the last year?
-I finished Graduate school in May.
Do you have any hobbies that you really enjoy? Why or why not?
-I enjoy reading, making cakes, paint and DIY furniture.
How do you balance your work and home life?
-I try to leave work at work. As a teacher, it's hard not to focus on work at home, but I try to finish as much as I can at work.
What are some daily struggles that you have to face because you are a career woman and a mom?
-Getting the kids ready in the morning is of course a struggle. I have to make sure they have all of their stuff. Getting lessons planned is another struggle.
How do you find time to do something for yourself?
-I find time for myself when the girls go to bed or when they're doing their own thing. The kids find ways to entertain themselves, so I find ways to entertain myself. The weekends are also pretty good time for me to have time for myself.

Do you have mom guilt?
- YES! I have really bad mom guilt. Especially when I want to be by myself or when I take them to a babysitter to go away for the weekend or go out to dinner with a friend. Each year I go to Texas with a friend and the kids go to their grandparent's. They have a great time, but I still feel bad.
Do you feel criticized by other moms because you have to work?
- No, no one has ever made me feel guilty. However, [laughing] I feel jealous of moms who don't have to work.
Do you feel any type of pressure as a working mom?
-I feel pressured for time. I feel as if I do not have enough time for my kids because the time school is over, I only have three and a half hours with them before it is bed time--and I have to squeeze in supper and bath time.
Where does that pressure come from?
- Myself. I have to work and devote time to being a mom and a career woman. And not having a choice because I have to do both.
You have been a single career mom and a married career mom. Is it easier being remarried and a career mom?
- Yes, it makes things so much easier because I don't have to worry about a lot of the little things. Chris helps out and it makes a HUGE difference.

Stacy is an amazing mom and teacher. She leads a great example and is an excellent role model. Her daughters are very blessed to have a terrific mother and all of her former and current students are blessed as well.
